Assessment on the impact of COVID 19 on the girls' victims of trafficking and slavery in the streets of Kampala and surrounding Slums. Over 2,000 Girls and Boys victims were registered. However, with UNODC support, only 25 girls victims of trafficking have been rescued and now undergoing rehabilitation. They will be trained in life skills and facilitated with business start-up capital for a sustained life to avoid re-trafficking. As a result, both the Kampala Capital City Authority, Napak District Local Government and parents of the victims have exerted pressure on ADOL to extend the support and rescue the remaining victims of trafficking as well. ADOL has created a network of relevant stakeholders involved in the rescue of victims of trafficking and as a result, 8 victims were recently rescued at the border of Uganda-Kenya border en-route to Nairobi-Kenya. There are over 1,000 Ugandan victims stranded in Nairobi and parts of Somalia that ADOL has been informed about.
Locally, ADOL has empowered Traffic Police Officers to inspect vehicles suspected to be involved in human trafficking. Also, the market leaders of Arapai, Soroti and Mbale Central Markets are on the watch of perpetrators of trafficking. ADOL plans to use FM Radio stations, Public Address Systems in markets and towns and Public Transport to advocate against human trafficking and slavery.
To support, advocate, promote and implement integrated interventions that socially and economically empower the communities to be resilient. ADOL envisions economically and socially empowered communities that demand their rights and freedoms.
