Impact Stories
Through the Match a Meal campaign, the organisation is currently assisting 430 young girls and women at risk and survivors of child marriage through educational support including vocational skills training and health education.
Simuka has also reached out to 250 households with monthly food provisions and support to establish nutritious gardens.
We have a network of 150 young professional volunteers who are helping through mentoring young girls and mobilising financial and material resources. These include UN Volunteers based in many countries around the world.
With our initiatives and campaigns, we can already see that there is an increased awareness on the impact of child marriages – where the subject was a taboo before, people are now engaging in informative discussions and actions, and passing on that knowledge to their relatives and neighbours. There is a larger recognition of the role of education in tackling poverty and gender inequality, and how it can positively impact the livelihoods of previously poor and marginalised households.

Organization's mission

Is to provide services, programmes and facilities that would enable young people to realise their fullest potential
Simuka Africa Youth Association, therefore, seeks to contribute towards turning the promises of the Sustainable Development Goals into reality through the implementation of Building Sustainable and Safe Futures for Girls and Young Women Project in Zimbabwe. The project will contribute towards developing social and economic assets for girls and young women, ensuring that they have access to education and health services leading to the postponement of marriage.

Organization work linked to UNTOC

Child marriage remains a critical challenge in Zimbabwe due to a variety of factors regarding to human trafficking. These include poverty, gender based violence, harmful traditional, cultural and religious practices and poor access to educational and overall developmental opportunities. The UN Member states agreed on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which recognises the transformative power of women and girls.
Since its inception in 2006, the organisation has reached out to many disadvantaged and marginalised young people and communities with programmes, services and facilities, such as free medical outreach, HIV/AIDS and Sexual Reproductive Health education and awareness, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Skills Training, Rehabilitation of boreholes and provision of food.
We support young people’s initiatives on life skills development and economic strengthening. We strive to alleviate poverty and break the cycle of child marriage which leaves many young girls and women without education and no voice to decide their future.
