Through the Revenge Porn Helpline, SWGfL provides crucial support to victims of sextortioncases that frequently involve international crime groups exploiting vulnerable individuals. Our recent data shows a 54% increase in sextortion reports over the past year, underscoring the urgency of this issue. Victims often report high levels of anxiety and fear about their images being shared, with 54% unsure if their content had been circulated. One victim shared, “The Helpline was a lifeline—they escalated my case, getting the offending account removed from Instagram. Without them, I’d still be fearful of what might happen.”
In response, StopNCII.org was developed as a proactive tool to prevent the sharing of non-consensual intimate images (NCII). In collaboration with international NGOs and technology platforms, StopNCII.org offers device-side hashing technology, allowing victims to protect their content before it spreads. This tool represents a groundbreaking approach, particularly for those targeted by sextortion, providing real-time blocking without storing or sharing victims’ data.
Our ongoing awareness campaigns and partnerships strive to disrupt criminal networks and enhance victim support. Testimonials reinforce the impact of our services, with one victim stating, “I felt truly supported… [the Helpline’s] guidance and reassurance made me feel less alone.” SWGfL is committed to furthering cross-border collaboration to protect individuals, empowering victims to reclaim their security and control online.
