ICLAIM is a non-profit organisation based in Cyprus whose members are credited with local, regional, and global initiatives focusing on diverse fields of law and social justice. We work very closely with internationally respected and distinguished researchers and academics as well as key industry partners and professionals, including the public sector, in Cyprus, Europe, and the wider region. ICLAIM has participated in several national and international funded projects on human trafficking and smuggling in Cyprus and the region. Human trafficking and smuggling are particularly prevalent in Cyprus by reason of its geographical location and the de facto division of the island. This phenomenon across the Green Line on the island of Cyprus, on both sides of the divide, needed to be studied systematically. Our researchers have undertaken advanced research on the manifestation of these criminal phenomena in Cyprus, their causes and effects, in addition to articulating impactful outputs, such as good practice handbooks and reports, as a means of formulating more concerted action and policy making in combatting these types of transnational organised crimes. As of 2023, ICLAIM has been actively participating in the UNTOC Constructive Dialogues, especially on Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants. Through this engagement, ICLAIM seeks to enhance its input as well as make a meaningful contribution to the work of the UNTOC Review Mechanism, in respect of which there is little knowledge among civil society working on human trafficking and smuggling in Cyprus.
